December 30, 2000 - In commemoration of the martyrdom of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the chapters in the Chicago area have joined together in several activities.

On this day the unveiling of the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument roll of donors was held at Lincoln Park Margate Fieldhouse. This historic occasion marked the recognition of those who had made financial contributions for the erection of the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument - Chicago.

The monument project was spearheaded by the Order of the Knights of Rizal in the Chicago Area, The Philippine Centennial Movement, Philippine American Cultural Foundation, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General of Chicago. In spite of the severe snow condition in the area, floral offering was held at the monument by a few knights and a lady braved the thick snow in order to proceed with the offering.

On the evening of the 30th. of December, a joint celebration of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal was held at the Rizal Center, W. Irving Park Road, Chicago. This year's celebration was hosted by the KOR, Chicago Chapter. An indoor floral offering was held at the Dr. Jose Rizal bust at the center.

The highlight of the evening's affair was the grand opening of the Dr. Jose Rizal Library sponsored by the KOR Chicago Chapter. The evening's festivity was a night of reflection, dramatization and singing focused on the life of our national hero. A dinner and dance culminated the activity.
